Lawrence “Law” Devera was born and raised in Los Angeles, California where he fell in love with the art of hip-hop dance. Growing up in a very family oriented environment, he was first introduced to bboying at the age of 15 by his older cousins who always got down at family gatherings. Then in 2006, although Lawrence was highly active in high school academics, clubs and sports, he had a new found passion for dance pushing him to join a junior dance troupe called Future Shock LA where he decided to challenge himself to do hip-hop choreography. This was the spark that influenced him to later represent crews and other teams such as Culture Shock Los Angeles, PAC Modern, Freedom Junkies, SPAM, Choreo Kingz, Inside the Box, Boogiezone Breed and America’s Got Talent Season 3′s Sickstep.
Although he was studying to become an X-Ray technician, he still has a strong passion to seek something more from what dance has taught him.
In the fall of 2008, Lawrence was then recruited into Poreotics for the America’s Best Dance Crew’s Season 3 auditions. Unfortunately, the group didn’t make it onto ABDC season 3 or the season after, but in that time they were still hungry and went on to win the 2009 Championship title for the USA Hip-Hop International Finals as well as other competitions such as Breakthrough Dance Competition and World of Dance. Finally the crew was fortunate to make it onto ABDC Season 5 and through a tough and exhausting journey on the show, they pushed on to win the Season 5 Championship title. Since then Lawrence has never been more thankful and more blessed to be living the dream that he aimed for without expectation.
Lawrence considers himself a student everyday and hopes to inspire and entertain audiences with every performance. He is thankful that new generations have also grown to appreciate the art of dance as he did and gratefully respects the pioneers of hip-hop dance who have paved the way for all dancers. Lawrence hopes that he will one day become as great as these pioneers and that soon he will fulfill his hopes to be able to support his own family in the future.
